What are some pieces of advice for the parents listening to this episode?
Make sure your kids know that in your house, you value God. One of the biggest mistakes parents make in and out of a Christian home is thinking they cross the parenting finish line when their kids reach a certain age of adolescence. If anything, you need to be more intentional. Ask them what it is the Lord is speaking to them, what they are reading, and if needed, make a reading plan as a family.
Remember to connect with your kids, too. Find those connection points. You just keep engaging in those relationships and having those conversations. Be perceptive to opportunities to connect.
What does your morning routine look like as a wife and a mom of five?
I get up early and have my quiet time that I spend with the Lord to focus on Him. I take some time to look at my planner to see what I have going on for the day and for the week. After my morning routine and getting the kids up and situated, I’ll do a load of laundry, and do some light housework. While I get ready for work, I’ll throw on a podcast or some worship music to have some learning and engagement time.
When I’m at work I get to do amazing things to be a blessing to others. Each season is different with what you’ll be able to do with your time.
What would you say to someone that may not be naturally structured, but who wants to make the most of their time?
Try something small–for example, a power hour where you’ll do 20 mins of each thing such as praying, reading your Bible, and exercising–that hour in your day will set you up for good habits.
What does your devotional time with the Lord look like?
I read a Psalm and a Proverb of the day and choose a book of the Bible which I will read the intro and get into the history of in a study Bible, taking my time. There’s a difference between reading the Word and letting the Word read you. I spend time in prayer –in the spirit, too–whatever your capacity is to take the time to focus on Him and have that conversation with Him–waiting to listen to what He’s saying in that moment.
