SHOW NOTES:
Are you a chronic overthinker? Do you fall prey to thought? Well, it’s time to get out of your own head!
As much as we’d like for it to, overthinking isn’t something we graduate from. If you’re an overthinker, it probably doesn’t surprise you that our thought lives need to be constantly revisited and consistently reevaluated. Our life is a result of our thoughts, and what we think about we bring about. Thoughts can create patterns, keep us stuck in the same old cycle, take us down paths we are not meant to go down and get us focused on the “what-ifs” of life. However, none of those areas have God’s grace. God gives you mercy, but His mercies are for today.
God wants you to live free from being held captive by your thoughts.
One of the number one things the enemy uses against us as children of God is our thought life. Most of the thoughts we think are the same three thoughts on repeat! Maybe it’s an area you’re stressed about, fearful over, or something you’re anticipating that is happening in the days ahead. Recognize the thoughts that are on repeat because those are the thoughts that–if they haven’t done so already–create strongholds in your life.
Most of the thoughts we think are not only recurring, but most aren't even true or reality-based! Whenever we take our thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ, they are filtered through God’s word. Once you allow foreboding thoughts to attack your mind, your expectation is wrapped around them and before you know it, you’ve invited anxiety into your day and into your life!
Take your thoughts captive! You are led by your Spirit. You don’t have to be led by your thoughts. If it doesn’t line up with God’s word, it’s not worthy of meditation.
When you find yourself overthinking…
Think about what you’re thinking about! You can usually trace the lie or anxiety back to a thought that you began to digest and meditate on! Are your thoughts edifying, and are they coming from God? Measure your thoughts against God’s word, uproot them, and replace them with the truth of God!
Write down every thought that is plaguing you! Write down what is bothering you and you may realize how silly it is! Take it a step further–rip and shred it up, releasing those foreboding thoughts.
Pray about the contrary thoughts! Use the thoughts as a prayer point contrary to the thought you had.
Don’t be a chronic overthinker, opening areas of attack. His grace is for today. He wants you to thrive in peace. He wants you to thrive in joy. Guard your mind, take thoughts captive making them obedient to Christ, and start enjoying where God has you right now!
